I don't think I have ever been so excited or nervous about something in my entire life.
Okay, that's not totally true. I knew it was waiting for me at the house because hubby texted me that morning to let me know: "Your nipple torture device arrived."....Nice.
With Adam looking on from a safe distance, I ripped into this puppy like a kid at Christmas...and then was met with this:
Wow...that is a lot of parts. And Hubby was pretty insistent that I figure this one out on my own. I am not what you would call technically savvy. So I was more than happy to see that it came with a clearly outlined set of instructions:
I will be totally honest with you though, I actually didn't need them (Take that Hubs). Set up is really pretty straight forward and was done in under five minutes.
Tada! I was left with my brand spankin' new double electric breast pump... that I had no clue whatsoever what to do with. I mean....I know what a breast pump is but...
Seriously...
Look, I knew I would have to pump. And I honestly was really excited to.... well maybe excited is not the right word. I wanted to be excited about pumping. Breast feeding is something that was really important to Adam and I, and as A working Mama and I need to keep that supply up. Still I couldn't help feeling a little like a cow in a dairy farm when faced with the reality of the situation.
You want me to put that on my what?!
But I am nothing if not determined and I was not about to let Adam's heckling from the corner of the nursery put me off of this. So I gave it a go. Which was...interesting. I will not say it was a comfortable experience. There was a lot of maneuvering and some trial and error. Once I got going though, there was no stopping me. It is a weird feeling, I won't lie. It's not uncomfortable and far from torturous. For a bleary eyed nervous newbie, it was really easy to use and get used to. There are two cycles. The preparation/stimulation stage to get you ready to express:
And then the actual pumping stage. You can set the suction to as light or as heavy as you need and I love that it has the timer to let you know just how long you have been pumping. Again, it was not as weird as I thought I would be, and it quickly felt like second nature.
It's really surprisingly quiet too, which is nice for on the go or office pumping. I don't know what I expected, but it was a really nice surprise how easy to use and user friendly the Signature Pro was. I haven't had any complaints about the pump itself. I did end up buying a different brand of storage bags at the recommendation of some other mom friends and that has worked out for me.
If you are a new mom and as nervous about everything as I am, I highly recommend giving this pump a go. There is nothing to be scared of about breast pumping. Midnight messy diapers on the other hand....
